Understanding How Dental Insurance Works

Dental insurance forms

To get the most out of your dental insurance policy, we recommend keeping up with routine preventive care (like checkups and cleanings), because many policies typically cover 100 percent of the cost of these visits. Most policies renew every calendar year on January 1st, which is when your deductible and maximum restart. The deductible is the set amount of money you need to pay out-of-pocket before your benefits kick-in, and the maximum is the capped-off amount that your insurance will pay out for your treatments each year. This will help you maximize your savings.

What Your Dental Insurance Plan Covers

It’s important to note that every dental insurance plan’s benefits differ, so in order to find out whether yours will cover a specific treatment, you’ll need to contact them directly and ask. That being said, many companies base their coverage on a 100-80-50 structure. This means that they cover 100 percent of preventive visits, 80 percent of basic dental treatments, and 50 percent of more serious procedures.

Here are the plans that we’re in-network with:

  • BlueCross BlueShield
  • Cigna
